Wheel balancing (VW Beetle)

Wheels are balanced at the factory. Balancing is necessary to eliminate uneven distribution of material and inaccuracies in wheel manufacturing. During vehicle operation, wheel imbalance manifests itself in the form of shaking and vibration. Over time, this can lead to damage to the suspension ball joints, which will cause increasing vibration throughout the entire vehicle. The first sign of wheel imbalance is steering wheel vibration.

Wheels should generally be balanced every 15,000 km and after each tire repair, as wear and repairs alter the distribution of weight and material on the tires.
