Compression check (VW Polo 3)

1. Remove the engine cover (arrows) (fig. 4.5 a).

2. Disconnect the high-voltage wire with the adapter from the spark plug.

3. Remove the spark plug.

4. Disconnect the four-pin wiring connector from the ignition coil (arrow) (Fig. 4.10).

4. Disconnect the four-pin wiring connector from the ignition coil (arrow) (Fig. 4.10).


5. Press the accelerator pedal all the way down.

6. Check the compression using the VAG 1381 or VAG 1763 compression tester.

7. Start the engine using the starter and check the compression.
  • Compression pressure of a new engine: 10-15 bar.
  • Permissible wear: 7 bar.
  • Permissible difference between cylinders: 3 bar.
