2. Disconnect the connectors from all glow plugs and unscrew them.
3. Screw the VAG 1763/12 adapter into the glow plug hole (Fig. 4.22). Check the compression using the VAG 1763 or 1381 tester.

4. Rotate the engine crankshaft with the starter until the tester indicates compression pressure.
- New engine compression: 28 bar.
- Permissible compression: 23 bar.
- Permissible difference between cylinders: 3 bar.
- Glow plug tightening torque: 15 Nm.
