Deciphering the symbols printed on the battery label
- 1 - when servicing the battery, it is necessary to follow the safety rules set out in the instruction manual;
- 2 - there is corrosive acid in the battery and care must be taken that the acid does not spill out of the battery;
- 3 - do not use open fire near the battery;
- 4 - when working with the battery, use safety glasses;
- 5 - keep the battery out of the reach of children;
- 6 - when disposing of the battery, hand it over only to designated points;
- 7 - do not dispose of the battery with household waste;
- 8 - gases released during battery charging are explosive
The battery is installed in the engine compartment behind the left headlight.
Warning: When the battery terminals are disconnected, data on the recorded faults are erased in the memory blocks of the control devices, therefore, before disconnecting the battery terminals, it is advisable to contact a specialized workshop to recall the faults recorded in the memory. After connecting the battery terminal, it is necessary to activate and reprogram the power windows, as well as the position of the rear-view mirrors and seats.
Warning: Also, if the car has a radio with a code, before disconnecting the terminals from the battery, check that you have the code to reactivate the receiver. Otherwise, it will be possible to put the radio receiver into operation only at a specialized Volkswagen station.
Removing
1. Switch off the ignition.
2. Open the hood.
3. Remove the negative terminal from the battery and move it to the side.
4. Squeeze the fuse holder cover on both sides (shown by arrows) and open it.
5. Loosen fastening (1) positive wire (see fig. Location of the fuse holder above the battery).
6. Mark the fuses and remove them from the spring contacts. Unscrew the nuts (A).
7. Disconnect the electrical connector (2).
8. Using your finger and a screwdriver blade, disconnect the fuse holder from the battery case (shown by arrows).
9. After moving the fuse holder housing upwards, remove it from the battery.
10. Loosen the fastener and remove the conductive plate from the positive battery terminal (see fig. The location of the fastening of the clamp of the conductive plate to the positive terminal of the battery).
11. If equipped, open and remove the battery heat shield (indicated by an arrow).
12. Unscrew the bolt at the bottom of the battery (indicated by an arrow) and remove the battery retaining plate.
13. Move the battery to the side, at the same time release the fastening of the second side of the battery and remove the battery from the engine compartment.
