Tools and equipment (VW Golf 1)

In addition to the basic set of tools, the following will be required to adjust the engine:

• Spark plug wrench size 14 mm (or similar socket wrench) - for unscrewing spark plugs
• Compression meter - for measuring compression in cylinders in order to assess the condition of piston rings and valves
• Device for measuring the angle of the closed state (UZSK) of the breaker contacts - for precise adjustment of the breaker contacts. This device can be combined with an electrical tester and a tachometer
• Tachometer - for determining engine speed when adjusting and checking the ignition system and carburetor/fuel injection system
• Stroboscope - for checking and adjusting the ignition timing and for checking the operation of automatic ignition timing regulators
• Gas analyzer - for checking CO content (carbon monoxide) in exhaust gases when adjusting the carburetor/fuel injection system.
