Removal
Caution! For all-wheel drive vehicles, disconnect the axle shafts from the gearbox and hang them horizontally on a wire to the body. Otherwise, the synchronizer joints may be damaged.

1. Unscrew the upper mounting screw (arrow) of the shock absorber. The car should stand on its wheels. If necessary, the car can be slightly raised to access the mounting bolt.

2. Unscrew the shock absorber from the steering knuckle, while holding the shock absorber with a special tool VW-3245.
3. Remove the shock absorber.
Installation
1. Check the rubber shock absorber support bushings for porosity and damage; replace if necessary.
2. Install the shock absorber.
3. Install the washer so that the flange points towards the shock absorber.

4. Tighten the shock absorber from below to a torque of 45 Nm.
5. Gradually lower the car until the top shock absorber bolt can be installed.
6. Tighten the screw to a torque of 100 Nm.
7. If necessary, lower the car completely.
