Checking the installation angle of the windshield wiper arm
The check is performed if the wiper blade rattles or makes a crackling noise during operation.
Note: The POLO has so-called aero wipers installed at the front and, on newer models, also at the rear, which have a non-adjustable installation angle.
Special tool required:
Special adjustment tool HAZET4851-1.
Examination
Move the windshield wiper levers to their original position. To do this, wet the window glass with water, turn on the windshield wipers for a short time and stop them using the switch.
Remove the wiper blade, see chapter "Replacing the wiper blade rubber strip".
Raise the windscreen wiper arm "2", place the special tool HAZET 4851-1 on it and lock it with the bolt "3".
Carefully lower the lever onto the window glass. The HAZET 4851-1 tool must touch the glass at three points. If necessary, loosen bolt "3", adjust the tool and tighten the bolt again.
Read the installation angle value from the instrument scale and compare it with the prescribed value.
Front/rear wipers of the car IBIZA: -4° ±0.5°. Rear wiper of the car POLO (unless it's an aero glass cleaner): -6° ±2,0°.
Adjustment
Lift the lever from the glass and carefully turn the tool with a 24 mm wrench "1" as shown in the figure. At the same time, hold the wiper lever at the hinge with pliers so that the hinge is not damaged during adjustment.
Check the installation angle again and, if necessary, repeat the adjustment until the scale shows the specified value.
Remove the adjustment tool, then reinstall and secure. Check the installation angle again, and repeat the adjustment if necessary.
