When the ignition is turned on, the system checks the health of the systems and sensors. This process takes a few seconds. At this time, some signaling devices on the instrument panel light up and go out at the end of the test. If the indicator lights up and then goes out, then the corresponding system is working.
If, while driving or the engine is running, one of the warning lights on the instrument panel lights up or starts flashing, this means a malfunction of the corresponding system. Some signaling devices duplicate the light signal with a sound signal. When the signaling device is triggered, it is necessary to stop the movement, find out and eliminate the cause of the malfunction. In difficult cases, contact a WV workshop.
1. Rear fog light
The signaling device lights up when the rear fog lamp is turned on.
2. Generator
The indicator lights up when the ignition is turned on and should go out when the engine is started.
The generator is driven by a belt from the crankshaft pulley. If the generator indicator lights up while driving, you can continue driving to the nearest service station. Most often, the drive belt is to blame for the malfunction.
As the battery continues to discharge, all electrical consumers, except those absolutely necessary, must be turned off.
3. Fog lights
The indicator lights up when the front fog lights are turned on.
4. Power steering
The indicator lights up when the ignition is switched on and should go out when the engine is started. The signaling device lights up when the car is moving, if the hydraulic booster is faulty.
5. Glow plugs (only for diesel engines)
If the indicator lights up immediately when the ignition is turned on, do not start the engine.
6. Engine control (only petrol engines)
The indicator lights up when the ignition is turned on and should go out when the engine is started.
The signaling device reports any malfunction in the engine management system while driving. When a signal appears, you need to contact the service station as soon as possible.
7. Turn signals
Depending on which turn direction is enabled, the right or left arrow will flash in sync with the car's turn signals. If the turn signal circuit is faulty, the arrow will flash twice as fast as normal.
8. high beam headlights
The signaling device lights up when the high beam headlights are turned on.
9. System «Cruise control»
The indicator lights up when the mode is turned on «Cruise control». Not all models have this mode.
10. The back of the rear seat is not fixed
This indicator is only available on models with a seat belt in the middle section of the rear seat. The warning lamp illuminates for approximately 20 seconds after the ignition is switched on if the rear seat center backrest is not properly secured. If the backrest is disengaged while the vehicle is moving, the warning light will illuminate continuously.
11. Motion stabilization program
The indicator lights up when the ignition is turned on and should go out after about two seconds. When the motion stabilization program is enabled, the indicator flashes. If the system is switched off or is faulty, the warning lamp lights up permanently.
Since the stabilization system works together with the ABS and differential lock, if these systems malfunction, the motion stabilization indicator will also light up.
12. Anti-lock braking system (ABS)
The indicator lights up when the ignition is turned on and should go out after a few seconds when the system check cycle is completed.
If the indicator does not light up after the ignition is turned on, or does not go out, or lights up while driving, then the ABS system is faulty. The system fault is displayed as follows.
ABS warning light on
The normal brake system works and the car can be stopped without ABS. In this case, you should consult a qualified specialist as soon as possible.
The ABS warning light comes on together with the brake system warning light
This means that not only the ABS is faulty, but the entire braking system. Changes in braking characteristics are possible. The indicator display shows the following message: «STOP! BRAKE FAULT» (Stop! Brakes are defective).
Attention! If both warning lights come on, stop the vehicle immediately and check the brake fluid level. If the level falls below the MIN·mark, do not continue driving, consult an experienced specialist.
If the brake fluid level is within the acceptable range, the ABS may be faulty. If the ABS function is impaired, the rear wheels may quickly lock up when braking, causing the vehicle to skid. Continue driving very carefully and repair the problem as soon as possible.
13. The brake system is faulty. Parking brake on
On vehicles equipped with ABS, the indicator lights up for a few seconds after the ignition is turned on.
While driving, the indicator lights up in the following cases:
- The parking brake is on. The signaling device is accompanied by a sound signal if the car travels at a speed of more than 6 km / h. A message appears on the indicator display «HANDBRAKE ON» (parking brake on).
- The brake fluid level has fallen below the permissible limit. A message appears on the indicator display «STOP! BRAKE FAULT» (Stop! Brakes are defective).
Attention! If the indicator does not go out after the parking brake is released, or lights up when the car is moving, then most likely the level of brake fluid in the reservoir has fallen below the permissible level. Stop the car, stop moving and consult a specialist.
If the ABS warning light comes on together with the brake warning light, the anti-lock function may be impaired. In this case, the rear wheels can quickly lock up during braking, which will lead to a skid of the car. Continue driving very carefully and repair the problem as soon as possible.
14. Airbag system
After the ignition is turned on, the signaling device lights up for a few seconds. If the indicator flashes for approximately 12 seconds, then at least one airbag is disabled. If the indicator does not go out or lights up or flashes while driving, then the airbag system is faulty. A message appears on the indicator display «AIR BAG FAULT» (airbags are faulty). Show the car to the service station as soon as possible.
15. Seat belts
The indicator lights up after the ignition is turned on for about 6 seconds as a reminder to fasten the seat belt. If the belt is not fastened, an audible signal will sound and will sound until the belt is fastened.
16. Trailer turn signals
When you turn on the direction indicators on the trailer, they also start flashing. To control the health of the trailer direction indicators, there is a signaling device on the instrument panel, which also starts flashing. If the indicator does not flash, then there is some kind of malfunction with the direction indicators.
17. Coolant temperature/level
The indicator lights up when the ignition is turned on and stays on for a few seconds, then goes out.
If the indicator does not go out or lights up while driving, then not everything is in order in the cooling system - either the engine has overheated or the coolant level has dropped. In addition to the light signal, the buzzer will sound three times. If this happens, stop the engine and check the fluid level. Top up if necessary.
A message appears on the indicator display «STOP! CHECK COOLANT» (Stop! Check coolant).
If the liquid level does not drop, the cooling fan may be faulty. Check fan fuse.
If the fluid level and fan fuse are normal, and the indicator does not go out, do not use the car, consult a specialist.
18. Engine oil pressure/level
When the ignition is turned on, the signaling device lights up for a few seconds, then goes out. If the signaling device does not go out, in addition, an audible signal will sound three times. Do not start the engine. Check the oil level and top up if necessary.
The indicator flashes red (low oil pressure)
If the indicator flashes while driving, the horn will sound three times if the engine speed is above 1500 rpm. Stop, stop the engine and check the oil level. If the oil level is normal, and the indicator continues to flash, stop driving - consult a specialist.
A message appears on the indicator display «STOP! ENGINE OIL PRESSURE LOW» (Stop! Low oil pressure in the engine).
The indicator lights up yellow (low oil level)
Check the oil level again and top up if necessary. Make it a habit to check the oil level every time you fill up the tank with fuel. A message appears on the indicator display «CHECK OIL LEVEL» (check oil level). The warning will disappear if the hood has been open for more than 30 seconds. But if the oil level remains the same, then the warning will reappear after 100 km.
The signaling device flashes yellow (faulty oil level gauge)
If the oil level measuring device is defective, the indicator will flash and an audible signal will sound. The engine should be checked at a service station as soon as possible.
A message appears on the indicator display «OIL SENSOR WORKSHOP!» (check oil sensor).
19. Door open
If all doors are closed, the display disappears.
20. Immobilizer
When the ignition is turned on, the signaling device lights up for about three seconds. During this time, the key is recognized. The engine can be started if the ignition key is recognized as «mine». The anti-theft system is disabled in this case.
If the key is not recognized, the indicator starts flashing constantly. The engine will not start and the vehicle cannot be used.
A message appears on the indicator display «IMMOBIL. ACTIVATED» (immobilizer activated).
21. Washer fluid
The indicator lights up when the washer fluid level becomes too low. Add fluid to the washer reservoir. A message appears on the indicator display «TOP UP WASHER WATER».
22. Trunk open
The indicator lights up when the trunk or tailgate is open. The warning light will turn off when the trunk is closed.
23. Brake pad wear
The indicator lights up when the wear of the brake pads has reached the limit. Check and replace pads.
A message appears on the indicator display «CHECK BRAKE PADS/ LININGS» (check brake pads/pads).
24. Low fuel
The indicator lights up when there are approximately 7 liters of fuel left in the tank.
A message appears on the indicator display «FILL TANK» (fill the tank).
25. Exhaust composition out of range
Blinking: Possible cause - damaged catalytic converter.
On: possible cause - a malfunction that caused a deterioration in the composition of the exhaust gases (e.g. oxygen sensor malfunction).
Carefully move to the service station and check the engine.
A message appears on the indicator display «EMISSION WORKSHOP» (check exhaust at service station).
