No child safety seats facing the direction of travel are permitted in the passenger seat next to the driver, except for a special child seat with automatic identification by the safety system.
Caution: For safety reasons, do not carry out any work on parts related to the airbag and seat belt tensioner systems.
Before removing and installing the driver airbag assembly, strictly follow these instructions:
First, disconnect the ground (-) cable from the battery, then the positive (+) cable.
Attention: Read the instructions in the chapter "Removal and installation the battery".
Insulate both battery terminals to prevent accidental contact.
Turn the car wheels and steering wheel to the straight-ahead position.
Before removing (touching) the airbag assembly, it is necessary to discharge any static electricity that may be present. To do this, briefly grasp the door locking wedge or the body.
Caution: There should be no people in the vehicle when connecting the battery.
General instructions:
- Never install airbag components from another vehicle or install another steering wheel. Always use new parts when replacing.
- Even after a minor collision in which the airbag did not deploy, the airbag and seat belt tensioner systems must be checked at a service station.
- The airbag system should only be checked at a service station. Never check with a test lamp, voltmeter or ohmmeter.
- Airbag components that have fallen from a height of more than 0.5 m must be replaced.
- The components of the airbag must not be exposed to high temperatures or open flames. The airbag assembly must not be exposed to temperatures above +100°C, even for a short time.
- Keep airbag components away from water, grease or oil. Wipe the parts immediately with a dry cloth.
- When removed, always place the inflatable cushion unit so that its elastic part faces upwards. If the unit is placed the other way round, the gas generator will be thrown upwards in the event of accidental ignition, which poses a risk of injury.
- Do not leave the inflatable cushion unit unattended during breaks in operation.
- The airbag assembly cannot be repaired and must always be replaced as a complete unit if faulty. Since the assembly contains explosive material, it must be kept locked up or under proper supervision.
- Before scrapping a vehicle, the airbag assembly must be rendered unusable (only at the service station).
- Airbag units have a limited service life. If an airbag unit is replaced, a note about the replacement of the unit must be entered in the service book. After 14 years, the airbag unit must be replaced with a new one.
Regarding side airbags, follow these instructions:
- Only seat covers approved for use with side airbags should be used on seats (identified by the Airbag stripes on the covers).
- The seat backs should not be covered with decorative covers, as this may interfere with the correct operation of the side airbags.
- The use of seat covers, mats and similar items that prevent identification of the seats and the correct operation of the airbags is not permitted.
- If the cover in the side airbag area is damaged (torn, burnt, etc.) for safety reasons, the cover should always be replaced with a new one, otherwise it may result in improper deployment of the airbag.
- Do not insert needles or similar sharp objects into the cover in the area of the airbag and the sensor mat.
