Attention: Disconnecting the battery will erase data from the vehicle's electronic storage devices.
Depending on the version of the radio, the anti-theft code for the radio must be determined and recorded. Otherwise, the radio can only be connected at a workshop for VW / SEAT vehicles or with the help of the manufacturer. The code number can be found in the radio manual. This code must not be stored in the vehicle.
Note: beta radio systems and date from VW are coded through the instrument cluster. Therefore, no code needs to be entered for these systems.
Depending on the equipment, after connecting the battery, the automatic raising/lowering of the power windows must be activated again:
- Lock the car from the outside with the key. Make sure all doors and windows are fully closed.
- Unlock and re-lock the vehicle. In this case, hold the key in the locking position for at least one second.
- If a fault is detected in the power windows, the illumination of the switches in the doors will flash.
Note: To prevent the stored data from being lost, a so-called constant current device can be used. Before disconnecting the battery, this appliance is connected to the cigarette lighter in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
Note: If the old battery is to be replaced, take it with you and return it to your dealer. Otherwise, when buying a new battery, you will have to pay a security deposit.
Removing
Turn off all electrical consumers. Switch off the ignition. This avoids damage to the electronic control units.
Open the engine compartment hood.
Pull the handle -arrow- on the side of the battery outwards and unfasten the cover with the fuse holder -2- at the locking plates -1-.
Tilt the fuse holder up and unfasten it from the opposite side of the battery.
Remove the fuse holder, together with the connected wires, push it to the side and lay it down.
Note: Depending on the model year, the fuse box may have a different design. In this case, the cover is unfastened, folded up and fixed together with the fuse holder.
First, disconnect the ground wire from the battery. To do this, unscrew the nut -4-, remove the terminal -3- from the negative pole (-) and set the ground wire aside.
Note: If the battery is only disconnected, but not removed, then in most cases it is enough to just disconnect the ground wire from it.
Unscrew the nut -2-, remove the terminal -1 - from the positive pole (+) and put the positive wire aside.
Unscrew the bolt -5- at the base of the battery and remove the retaining plate -6-.
Pull the battery out of the rear retaining tabs first and lift it up out of the mounting box.
Disconnect the wiring harness from the battery junction box. To do this, press the hook of the plastic clamp, loosen the clamp and remove the wires from it.
Depending on the version of the mounting box, pull the strips from the sides and remove the top half of the box.
Unscrew the bolts and nuts at the base of the mounting box and remove the battery holder together with its mounting box.
Installation
Install the battery holder and tighten the fastener to 20 Nm.
If necessary, attach and secure the upper half of the battery mounting box.
Attach the wiring harness to the battery junction box.
Before installing the battery, clean its poles to a shine with a brass wire brush.
Insert the battery and slide its base under the retaining tabs.
Note: The battery is correctly installed from the front if the center hole in the battery base plate is in line with the threaded hole in the battery holder.
Battery with venting hose: make sure that the hose is not kinked.
Attach the retaining plate to the base of the battery, screw in the mounting bolt and tighten it to 25 Nm.
Before connecting the battery, make sure that all electrical consumers are disconnected and the ignition is turned off.
First connect the positive wire to the positive pole (+) battery, then ground wire - to its negative pole (-). Tighten the terminal nuts to 5 Nm.
Caution: If the battery is connected incorrectly, the alternator and electrical system may be severely damaged.
Caution: Do not lubricate battery terminals.
Place the fuse holder on top of the battery and slide the side plates into the notches -arrows- of the battery holder. Tilt the fuse holder down and secure with locking plates.
Note: Depending on the model year, the fuse box may have a different design. At the same time, press the retaining protrusions from the sides inward, unfasten the cover together with the fuse holder, fold it onto the battery and fix it.
If required, enter the anti-theft radio code.
If necessary, re-tune the radio to transmitting stations.
Set clock.
If equipped, activate the automatic power windows.
