Removal
Note: Removed valves must be installed in their original locations. Before removing, mark the valves. With high engine mileage, there may be small burrs on the crackers at the ends of the valve stems. These burrs should be removed with a thin file so that they do not leave scratches when pulling the valve out of the guide bushing.
Coat the valve stem with molybdenum sulphide grease in accordance with the markings made and insert the old valve.
Insert the valve spring and valve head.
Caution: Install the spring cup so that its narrow tray faces the cylinder head.
Compress the spring with a suitable device and insert crackers.
Note: The surfaces of the installed crackers may be worn to such an extent that the valve stem can rotate when the compressed crackers are applied.
Checking the valves
Clean the removed valves with a wire brush.
Check the valves for burnt valve seats, signs of wear and impacts on the valve stems, and the integrity of the grooves under the crackers.

Note: The valve stem cannot be reworked or repaired. Damaged valves must be replaced.
