Coat the valve seat surfaces with a thin layer of lapping paint.

Clean the valve seat in the cylinder head and insert the valve into the guide bushing.

While lightly pressing on the valve head, turn the valve about a quarter of a turn and pull it out.

The visible circular pattern on the surface of the seat in the cylinder head allows us to draw a conclusion about the tightness of the valve seat.

If the seat surface is evenly covered with lapping paint over the entire surface, the valve seat is sealed. If there are still spots without paint, then further lapping is required.

Checking with valves installed

Position the cylinder head so that both inlet ports or the outlet port are on top.

(The information is available on the website: vwmanual)

Pour some gasoline into the channels.

Fuel must not penetrate into the combustion chambers.
