Checking the temperature switch is necessary if the fan does not turn on when the engine is hot. Check condition: thermostat, radiator and radiator cap are in order.

The temperature switch of the electric fan is located in the lower left part of the radiator. The temperature switch has two switching modes. At elevated temperatures, it switches on increased fan speed, see table.

Removal



Unscrew 5 self-tapping screws from the lower radiator grille and remove the grille.

Disconnect the connector from the switch, unscrew the switch.

Close the radiator with a suitable plug or drain the coolant from it into a container.

Installation



When installing, install the switch with a new gasket and carefully tighten it to a torque of 7 Nm.

Connect the electrical wire.

Examination



Check the fan motor fuse and replace if necessary.

Check if the radiator is hot in the area of the temperature switch.

Disconnect the temperature switch connector, connect the terminals of the 3 wires to the temperature switch with a short jumper. First, short-circuit the + (plus) terminal with terminal 1, and then with terminal 2.

If in both cases the electric fan starts to work, replace the temperature switch.

If the fan does not turn on, or turns on only in one case, check the wiring according to the electrical diagrams. Check the quality and reliability of the connection contacts. If necessary, replace the fan motor.

Check the operation of the new temperature switch. Warm up the engine and let it idle until the radiator fan comes on.
