Support rail position
The fixing points of the supporting crossbars are located in the guide F and, at these points of the crossbar, are easily fixed. Crossbars can only be fixed at these points. When moving, the cross member should be unlocked, and fixed again in a new position.
The crossbars have supports of various sizes. Crossbars with larger supports are installed at the rear. Crossbars put "back to back", so that the flatter sides of the supports face outwards G.
If the roof rack is not in place and you intend to keep the crossbars, then: Slide both crossbars back until they lock into both rear notches.
When installing the roof rack, the distance between the supporting crossbars is determined by the dimensions of the roof rack - see the installation instructions supplied with the roof rack.
When to remove the support bars
When not to have a roof rack (fuel economy, less wind noise).
When going through an automatic car wash.
WARNING: When transporting heavy and bulky items on the roof, the vehicle's driving characteristics change due to a change in the center of gravity and an increase in the area of application of the wind load - this is dangerous. This must be taken into account when choosing the driving mode and speed of its movement, sharp braking and maneuvering should be avoided when such a load is on the trunk.
WARNING: If the support bar is moved with the key inserted, the paintwork may be damaged as the lock cover touches the roof.
WARNING: In the event of any damage to the vehicle due to the use of other rack support systems or violation of the installation instructions, the warranty will be voided.
Instructions for using the roof rack
Be sure to follow the factory installation instructions for the luggage carrier supports.
On the vehicle, there are attachment points for specially shaped support bars in the roof grooves. Therefore, it is impossible to put the first supporting cross members that fell into the hands.
These support bars form the basis for a complete support system. For transporting luggage, bicycles, surfboards, skis, boats, additional holders should be used. All system components are available from a Volkswagen dealer. It is recommended to use the original Volkswagen trunk. If you intend to use any other roof rack, make sure you can install it securely without causing damage to the vehicle.
It is recommended that the manufacturer's manufacturer's instructions for the roof rack be kept together with the log book.
When to remove the support bars
When not to have a roof rack (fuel economy, less wind noise).
When going through an automatic car wash.
WARNING: Before each ride, check the tightness of screw connections and other fasteners. Tighten them if necessary and then periodically check their condition, for example during stops on long journeys.
Load fastening
The load on the trunk must be securely fastened. Carrying cargo on the roof changes the vehicle's center of gravity.
The maximum permissible load on the roof of the car is 100 kg. This load includes the mass of the support system and the mass of the load.
Each support beam can carry no more than 50kg; the load must be evenly distributed over the support system.
When using a support system with low bearing capacity, the permissible roof load cannot be fully utilized. The roof rack should only be loaded with the weight specified as the maximum allowable weight in the roof rack installation manual.
