In Volkswagen Kafer vehicles, the frame and body are connected with bolts. Both parts perform load-bearing functions and together form the rigid body of the car, to which the fenders, running boards, hood and bumpers are attached.
The body is mounted on a frame and sealed with rubber seals. In case of severe damage it can be completely separated from the frame.
Removal
Loosen the front wheel mounting bolts, lift the vehicle and place it on supports. Remove the wheel.
Remove the bumper. Remove the bumper bracket seal from the wing.
Caution! For vehicles with turn signals in the bumpers, remove the indicators first.
Remove the headlights and turn signals, pull the wire out of the headlight housing. Remove the turn signal protective bushings from the holes in the fender.

Remove the hex bolts and nuts between the wing and the door frame trim. Loosen the hex bolts securing the wing and remove the wing.
Installation
Check the seal for suitability for further use and replace if necessary.
If necessary, thread the threaded holes for the wing bolts and lubricate the bolts with a general-purpose grease.
Install the wing in place, tighten all the bolts by hand. Install the seal and tighten the bolts.
If necessary, replace the rubber gasket between the wing and the door frame trim.
Install turn signals on the wing (if provided for by the design), connect electrical wires.
Install and adjust headlights.
Install the bumper and attach the turn signals to it (if they are provided for by the design).
Install the wheel, lower the vehicle and tighten the wheel mounting bolts to 130 Nm (13 kgfm).
