It is necessary to check the operation of the brake force regulator if you have to apply a lot of force to the brake pedal to brake.

Examination

1. Press the brake pedal vigorously at least five times while the engine is not running, then start the engine with the brake pedal depressed. The pedal should move noticeably downwards under your foot.

2. Otherwise, unscrew the vacuum hose from the brake booster, start the engine, and place your finger on the end of the vacuum hose to check if there is a vacuum.

3. If there is no vacuum: check the vacuum hose for leaks and damage, replace if necessary. Tighten all clamps. In gasoline engines, the vacuum is created in the engine intake pipe, which is attached to the side of the engine.

4. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the vacuum pump and check with your finger for vacuum where the hose is connected.

5. If necessary, replace the brake booster (at a service station).
