The gearbox oil is not changed. The oil level is checked as part of the maintenance.

Special tool required:


  • A pit or a hydraulic garage jack with support sawhorses.
  • Suitable 17 mm spanner for loosening the oil filler plug. Gearbox 02R: socket head with 17 mm external splines, HAZET 985-17.
  • Make your own dipstick from thin wire to check the oil level by bending the end of the wire, approximately 1 cm long, at an angle of 90°.

Necessary consumables/replacement parts:



Synthetic transmission oil SAE 75 W 90 specification VW/SEAT G050.

Note: The letter designation of the installed gearbox is shown on vehicle data plate, as well as on the gearbox.


Safety instructions
There is a risk of accident when lifting the vehicle! Please read the section "Lifting the vehicle" beforehand.


Place the car over the assembly pit or lift it horizontally onto trestles.

Remove the bottom one engine compartment cover.

Unscrew the oil filler plug "arrow".

Check the oil level with your finger or a piece of wire. The oil level is OK if it is level with the bottom edge of the filler hole.

Screw in the oil filler plug and tighten to a torque of 25 Nm.

Set bottom engine compartment cover.

Note: For the 6-speed manual gearbox 02M of the SEAT IBIZA, the oil level is checked in the same way.
