Replacing the air filter insert (VW Transporter T3)

The air filter insert is replaced every 30,000 km. When operating in dusty conditions, it should be replaced more often.

Removal

Open the spring locks of the filter housing. Note: The figure shows the air filter housing of an engine with a working volume of 1.9 L. The air filter housing of an engine with a working volume of 2.1 L is shown in Figure 24-183.

Tilt the air filter cover downwards and pull it out together with the air filter insert.

Wipe the filter housing with a cloth.

If it is slightly dirty, carefully knock out the filter insert with the dirty side down. An oily filter must be replaced.

Caution: Do not wash the filter insert with gasoline or lubricate it with engine oil. Do not blow the filter with compressed air.

Installation

Place the new filter insert into the cover.

Replace the lid and close the quick release latches.
