The seat belts in the front and rear seats are equipped with pretensioners. The pretensioners in the event of a frontal impact are only activated by sensors when the appropriate belt is in place. The pretensioner tightens the belt and thereby restricts forward movement of the driver or passenger.
The pretensioner can only work once.
In light frontal collisions, side impacts and impacts to the rear of the vehicle, rollovers, and other types of accidents, when there are no significant forces directed in the direction of travel, the pretensioners are not activated.
NOTE: When the pretensioner is activated, some smoke will be emitted. This is normal and does not indicate a fire in the vehicle.
Pretensioner handling precautions
Pretensioners are an integral part of seat belts installed on car seats. If you work on the pretensioners and other parts of the seat belts yourself, the belts can be damaged. This can result in the pretensioners not working or working effectively in the event of an accident.
To ensure that the pretensioners work and to avoid damage to the seat belts, a number of precautions must be observed, which are known to specialist workshops.
WARNING: Pretensioners and seat belts, including rewinders, cannot be repaired.
ATTENTION: Any work on the pretensioners and seat belts in general, as well as the removal and installation of individual parts, must be carried out only in specialized workshops.
ATTENTION: The protective function of the pretensioner is only enough for one time. If the pretensioner has worked, it should be replaced.
