The driver is informed about the need for maintenance by the Flexible Service-lntervallanzeige message, which is displayed for approximately five seconds after the ignition is switched on. Depending on the equipment, the message is displayed via the trip meter or via the instrument cluster display.
If the time for maintenance is approaching, a message about the time of its implementation is displayed after the ignition is turned on or, accordingly, after the engine is started in the following form:
Version 1: The trip meter displays a wrench symbol and the vehicle's mileage until the next service. After 10 seconds, the display changes to a clock symbol and the number of days until the next service.
Version 2: The message SERVICE IN 2000 km or 40 km appears on the instrument cluster display (TO after 2000 km or 40 days). After 20 seconds, the message about the upcoming maintenance goes out.
When the maintenance period calculated by the control unit arrives, a gong sounds and the spanner symbol flashes, and the display shows the message SERVICE! Maintenance must be performed as soon as possible.
Note: an overdue maintenance is displayed with a "-" sign before the mileage or number of days.
After performing maintenance, the maintenance interval indicator must be reset to its original position using the service station's diagnostic equipment.
If the engine of a vehicle with the Longlife-Service system has been filled with engine oil that is not intended for long-term operation during maintenance or repair, the service interval indicator must be reset with "flexibel" (not regulated) at "fest" (regulated). In this case, the vehicle is serviced every 15,000 km or 12 months. The service interval indicator is reset using the setting buttons located near the instrument cluster.
Note: To maintain maintenance at an unscheduled interval, the interval indicator must be reset to its original position using VW diagnostic equipment (at a service station).
Note: At the service station, during each service, fault codes from the electronic control units of the engine, ABS, airbag and anti-theft system are additionally read using a reading device. Therefore, it makes sense to visit the service station after a certain mileage, even if the maintenance is performed independently. Fault codes are read via the vehicle's diagnostic connector. In this case, at the car owner's request, the maintenance interval indicator can also be reset to its original state.
