Connecting the VAG 1551 fault code reader (VW Polo 3)

1. Remove ashtray 1 and connect the VAG 1551 fault code reader using the VAG 1551/3 cable (Fig. 7.45).



2. After connecting the fault code reader, depending on the selected function, turn on the ignition or start the engine. The following information should appear on the display:


3. Press "1" to select the "Data Transfer" function. Press "01" to select "Engine Electronics" and confirm by pressing the "O" button. The display should show the following information:


038906018FB - Engine control unit number.


1.9 ltr - Engine displacement.
R4 - Engine type (in-line, four-cylinder)
EDC - Version and designation of the injection system (Electronic Diesel Control)
SG - Manual transmission
2167 - Program version number.
Code 0002 - Control unit code.
WSC xxxx - Code from VAG 1551.

4. Press "→". The display should show the following information:
