The gearbox forms one unit with the final drive. The whole unit can be removed both after dismantling the engine, and separately (the engine stays in the car). Removing the transmission is usually only necessary when the transmission or final drive needs to be replaced or rebuilt. But, since it is not recommended to repair the gearbox or final drive outside the workshop, only the dismantling of the entire unit is described here.
