Replacing fuses (VW Beetle)

The fuse box, covered by a transparent plastic cover, is located on the left under the instrument panel.

The rear window defroster fuse is located behind the rear seatback, the reversing light fuse is in the engine compartment on the fan housing, and the auxiliary heater fuse is in the front of the trunk near the heater.

If any electrical consumer does not work, you should first check its fuse.

Caution! Before replacing a fuse, always switch off the corresponding consumer.


A blown fuse is identified by a melted metal insert.

Remove the blown fuse and install a new one of the same rating between the spring contacts with the metal strip facing up. The fuse must be well clamped by the spring contacts. Otherwise, bend the contacts after cleaning them with sandpaper.
