Attention! A faulty hydraulic compensator must be replaced as a whole. It cannot be repaired. Irregular knocking of the valves when starting the engine is normal.
1. Start the engine and let it run until the cooling fan comes on once.
2. Increase the speed to 2500 rpm for about two minutes.
3. If after this the hydraulic lifters still make noise, check them in the following sequence:
- remove the cylinder head cover;
- rotate the crankshaft so that the cam of the hydraulic compensator being tested is set upwards;
- determine the clearance between the hydraulic compensator and the cam;
- press the hydraulic compensator with a wooden or plastic wedge (Fig. 6.34). If, when the hydraulic compensator is pressed, the gap between it and the cam is more than 0.20 mm, it must be replaced.
