Connecting the VAG 1551 fault code reader (VW Polo 3)

1. Open the glove compartment lid on the driver's side and connect the VAG 1551 fault code reader using the VAG 1551/3 cable (Fig. 6.70).



2. After connecting the fault code reader, depending on the selected function, turn on the ignition or start the engine. The following information should appear on the display:


3. Press "1" to select the "Data Transfer" function. Press "01" to select "Engine Electronics" and confirm with the "Q" button. The display should show the following information:


028906021CQ - Engine control unit number.


1.9 ltr./1.7 Itr. - Engine displacement.
R4 - Engine type (in-line, four-cylinder).
EDC - Version and designation of the injection system (Electronic Diesel Control).
SG - Manual transmission (AG - Automatic transmission).
D1V - Program version number.
Code 0000 - Control unit code.


WSC 0000 - Code from VAG 1551.
