AHU Engine
1. Disconnect the vacuum pipe from the EGR valve.
2. Attach the VAG 1390 hand pump to the valve.
3. Operate the pump (Fig. 6.66). The membrane rod should move to the vacuum connection (observe through the hole "arrow").

4. Disconnect the VAG 1390 hand pump from the valve. The valve should close (the membrane should move towards the exhaust manifold).
AFN, ALE engines
5. Remove the engine cover.
6. Disconnect the connecting pipe between the intercooler radiator and the connecting flange.
7. Disconnect the vacuum pipe from the EGR valve.
8. Attach the VAG 1390 hand pump to the valve.
9. Operate the pump and observe the movement of the membrane rod (Fig. 6.67). It should move in the direction of the arrow.

10. Disconnect the VAG 1390 hand pump from the valve. The rod should return to its original position.
