Removal
1. Raise the front of the vehicle to relieve weight from the front axle.
2. Loosen the axle shaft mounting nut.
3. Mark the installation position of the ball joint mounting bolts on the lower arm.
On vehicles with 13-inch tires
4. Unscrew bolts 1 and 2 (Fig. 9.2).

On vehicles with 14-inch tires
5. Unscrew bolt 1 securing the brake caliper support (Fig. 9.3). Unscrew bolts 2 and 3.

For all cars
6. Turn the wheel outward and lock it in this position (Fig. 9.4).

7. Remove the ball joint.
Installation
8. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
Checking the axial clearance
9. Move the ball joint up and down with force (Fig. 9.5).

Checking the radial clearance
10. Rock the bottom of the wheel in and out (Fig. 9.6).

11. There should be no excessive runout in either test. Observe the ball joint during the test.
Tightening torques, Nm
Ball joint to the lower arm - 35.
Ball joint to steering knuckle - 50.
Axle shaft to steering knuckle fastening nut - 265.
